Solar power – what rebates and incentives are available?
Solar Credits Scheme
Sunshine Coast Solar Centre is a registered STC agent with ORER (office of renewable energy regulator) as such we can offer you the best possible price for your STC’s.
When you install a solar power system the size of the system determines how many small scale technology certificates (STC’s) formally known as renewable energy certificates you produce. Under the solar credits scheme, solar power systems up to 1.5kW receive 3 x the number of STC’s.
A 1.645kW solar power system (typically 7 REC solar panels) installed on the Sunshine Coast produces 96 STC’s.
Larger systems continue to produce small scale technology certificates. For example a 3kW solar power system installed on the Sunshine Coast produces 125 STC’s. (96 + 29 additional STC’s)
QLD Solar Bonus Scheme
The Queensland Government Solar Bonus Scheme was introduced in July 2008 and rewards homeowners and small customers (defined as homeowners or businesses who use less than 100megawatts of electricity) whenever they generate more electricity than they are using. This is known as a net feed in tariff (FiT).
The QLD Solar Bonus Scheme only applies to a maximum of 5kW.
Under the current legislation the FiT for eligible customers is 44¢ and will run until 2028, although it will be subject to review after 10 years. Some energy retailers such as Origin and AGL offer customers an additional FiT over and above the 44¢ per kWh. Currently AGL offer a total FiT of 52¢ and Origin 50¢ although these are not guaranteed and subject to change without notice.
