Solar Credits Scheme

When you install a solar power system the size of the system determines how many renewable energy certificates (REC’s) you produce. Under the solar credits scheme, solar power systems up to 1.5kW receive 5 x the number of REC’s.

A 1.5kW solar power system (typically 9 panels) installed on the Sunshine Coast produces 155 REC’s.

Larger systems continue to produce renewable energy certificates. For example a 2kW solar power system installed on the Sunshine Coast produces 165 REC’s. (155 + 10 additional REC’s)

QLD Solar Bonus Scheme

The Queensland Government Solar Bonus Scheme was introduced in July 2008 and rewards homeowners and small customers (defined as homeowners or businesses who use less than 100megawatts of electricity) whenever they generate more electricity than they are using. This is known as a net feed in tariff (FiT)

Under the current legislation the FiT for eligible customers is 44¢ and will run until 2028, although it will be subject to review after 10 years. Some energy retailers such as Origin and AGL offer customers an additional FiT over and above the 44¢ per kWh. Currently AGL offer a total FiT of 52¢ and Origin 50¢
